For as low as $125 you can have a small inexpensive wedding in a beautiful location in the Hernando Courthouse square, or at several of DeSoto County's Public Parks. You can dine at one of the Square's great restaraunts. Save money on an inexpensive elopement ceremony in a free spot in a DeSoto County park.

You need a marriage license and must have required certified documents to secure one.

Rev S.W. Ballinger, a native of Memphis, Tennessee,  served as a lay minister and Chaplain from 1990- 1993 and was ordained in 1995 as a minister in the Non-denominational church.

He has a B.S. in Psychology & Bible/Theology from Crichton College- 1990), post graduate studies in Teacher Education, and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity (2018) from an international Seminary. 

He has performed numerous public events for over 30 years and available in the Greater Memphis area to perform your personalized marriage ceremony. He will go to your location or a nice park in Shelby county (Tennessee) or DeSoto county when available.

Rev Ballinger is a member of the National Association of Christian Ministers.

It is possible to have a quick one day elopement in Hernando. Steve can perform your wedding on

2- hour notice. You just need to have a license, make an appointment with officiant to be married, and conduct the ceremony.

The license office is open weekdays only. Be sure to call and check with the license office for office hours and the need to have certified documents to present to them. 

The DeSoto County Marriage License Office is located in the court clerk office in the County Courthouse at 2535 Hwy 51 S # 201, Hernando, MS 38632. Please note: Call 662-469-8380 to verify current requirements.

Obtaining a Marriage License

To obtain a marriage license in DeSoto County:

Both applicants must appear before the Circuit Clerk. Effective January 13, 2020 the cost of the marriage license increases to $37, they accept cash or card. Proof of age is required by both applicants in the form of drivers licenses, ID, passport or birth certificate.

There is no blood work or waiting period required and the license does not expire once it has been issued. 

A deposit with Rev Ballinger is made to confirm a booking is set on the calendar. Date, time, and location are needed to see if there is an opening before booking ceremonies Call only. He cannot book a wedding by Text message.

Certified copies come from the state several weeks after the ceremony. Ministers do not issue licenses or certified copies. Ask the license office about certified copies.
